On Tuesday, the Indian government released a list of Podma Prize winners on the eve of the 73rd Republic Day. Many high-profile names on the list, including singer Sona Nigam and director Chandraprokash Dwivedi, veteran Bengali actor Victor Banerjee, are among the 35 individuals to be awarded the Podma Shri and Padma Bhushan Awards, respectively.
In the “Art” category, Bengali actor Victor Banerjee, Ustad Rashid Khan and the late singer Gurmit Bawa will receive this year’s Podma Bhushan. Podma Sri will receive music by Balles Bhajantra, singer Madhura Bartwal, director Chandraprokash Dvivedi, singer Sonu Nigam.
Indian classical vocalist Prabha Atre of Kirana gharana will be awarded by Padma Vibhushan.
