The Harbourfront Center has appointed Denise Bolduk as its inaugural director of Indigenous Arts.
As an artistic director and producer, Bolduk is known for creating shows that challenge audience bias and evoke new ways of thinking.
She has collaborated with a wide range of artists and organizations …
- Co-founder and artistic director of the Aboriginal music project at the Harbourfront Center
- Fellow of the Arts Program at the Arts Council of Canada and the Ontario Arts Council
- He has led programs for Luminato, REEL Canada and others
- He first started working with the Harbourfront Center as the artistic director of the inaugural Planet IndigenUS in 2004.
Bolduk currently works as a lecturer at the Indigenous Theater Center and continues to work as a teacher. She is also a member of the board and board of the Coach House Books Indigenous Non-Fiction Editorial Board, the Indigenous Music Management Working Group, the OCADU Indigenous Education Council, the BIBU Advisory Division and Forbes Wild Foods Inc.
“I really look forward to exploring, transforming and collaborating with the local and international community, partners and everyone at the Harbourfront Center, focusing on intertwining and strengthening the voices, attitudes and worldviews of indigenous peoples,” she said in a statement.
Bolduc will serve as a consultant for Harbourfront’s software departments to promote and advance Indigenous artists and educators, as well as launch new Indigenous arts and culture initiatives.

Strengthening the creative and leadership capacity of Indigenous people in the arts has been identified as a significant area of growth for arts organizations in Canada.
In addition to the Harbourfront Center news, the Banff Center has just appointed a new director of Indigenous leadership. The National Center for the Arts has also launched new initiatives. The Ontario Arts Council has launched a $ 4 million fund for artists and indigenous organizations at the funding level.
