Soprano Sondra Radwanowski announced on Instagram that she has resigned from the cast of the upcoming play Gran Teatre del Liceu The Queen of Spades (the queen of spades). The opening of production is scheduled for today, January 26, 2022.
Radwanowski was chosen to play the role of “Lisa” in Tchaikovsky’s classic opera about a Russian officer Herman, who is trying to get the secret of winning in a high-stakes card game. Being an opera, it ends horribly for him.
The Canadian soprano was to sing with superstar Yusif Eivazov, who will still sing with Liana Harutunyan.
Apologies are directed directly against her supporters
In a candid video message, Radwanowski explained what had happened in the last month and why she had decided to cancel it.
“I come to you from my home in Toronto to just apologize for not being able to be in Barcelona for the queen of spades on [Gran Teatre del] Lyceum, ”she said, visibly upset.
“My mother just died last week and it was a very difficult time for me to handle everything. Losing a mother is not like any other loss we experience in our lives, and it just took me a long time to focus on myself and focus on becoming healthier, happier and more relaxed. ”
Radwanowski also said she had recently recovered from COVID-19 after falling ill for the second time in late December.
“I’ll be back. Just give me some time to stop crying. I miss my mom. See you soon …”
Who will fill in?
- Liana Harutunyan will sing on January 26, 1, 5, 8 and 11 February 2022.
- Irina Churylova will sing on January 27, 2, 4, 6 and February 10, 2022.
This was not the first time Radwanowski had to cancel the production dates …
… Radwanowski first canceled opera dates 26 and 27 January and 2, 4, 6 and 10 February 2022.
The star soprano has confirmed that she will return to Naples for the Three Queens concert scheduled for February 22, 2022. This performance will also coincide with a new record of the program, which will be released next month on the Pentatone label.
