It has been only a few months since the RCM announced that the Royal Conservatory would be renamed the Oscar Peterson School of Music.

Today, RCM announced that conductor from Oakville Colin Clark has been appointed the first artistic director of the Oscar Peterson program at the Oscar Peterson School of Music.

Clark will provide artistic direction to the new program, which aims to provide comprehensive music training, free tuition, for young people from low-income communities.

“I am very excited to join the Oscar Peterson School and develop a new Oscar Peterson program,” Clark said in a statement. “I have dedicated my career to communicating with communities through music and music education, and I cannot express enough of my joy that I have the opportunity to continue this work with the Royal Conservatory.”

Is it good?

As the founder and artistic director of the Toronto Youth Brass Band, Clark is a renowned music ambassador to Ontario.

He is currently the artistic director and conductor of the Oakville Youth Orchestra. Prior to that, he conducted the National Youth Orchestra of Canada. As a popular guest conductor, he has also conducted events with several orchestras and choirs, including the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir, the Canadian Hamilton Brass and Philharmonic Orchestra.

When will the Oscar Peterson program start?

RCM will begin the Oscar Peterson program in the fall of 2022.
