Legend of fashion and ex Vogue editor-in-chief Andre Leon Tali died at a hospital in White Plains, New York, Jan. 18 TMZ reports.
Tali, 73, was a news director Vogue from 1983 to 1987 before becoming the creative director of the magazine from 1988 to 1995.

Telly was more than a life person who broke fashion barriers as a young gay man with impeccable style and taste.
He was born in Washington, DC and raised by his maternal grandmother, Beanie Francis Davis, in Durham, North Carolina in the Jim Crow era.

“For a long time, my grandmother did not allow white people to come to our house,” Tali said. “It was her rule. The only white man who ever came into the house was a coroner.”
Telly said Miss Beanie inspired him and gave him an “understanding of luxury” that fueled his love of fashion.

His interest in fashion arose when he discovered the problem Vogue a journal at the local library at the age of nine or 10. He is pictured with a lifelong Vogue editor Anna Wintour at the Donna Karan New York fashion show in the fall of 2011.
After graduating from Brown University with a master’s degree in French literature in 1972, Tally worked as an unpaid student at Diana Vreeland at the Metropolitan Museum in 1974.
Vryland, then Vogue the editor-in-chief was so impressed with Telly that he hooked him up to work at Andy Warhol’s factory and Interview magazine for $ 50 a week.

He kept working on The New York Times and other publications before finally landing in Vogue.
In 2007, Telly ranked 45th in the rankings It turns out magazine of the 50 most powerful gays and women in America.
He was virtually homeless after being evicted from his mansion in New York City in February 2021.
Tali never married and had no children.

Andre Leon Tali has lived in my city for several years and has been a regular visitor to the local deli and supermarket. He was such a nice, sweet man and so friendly. I am so sad that he was taken far, too early. RIP Sweet Andre.
