Bill Maher seemed to take Chris Rock’s side after Will Smith slapped the comedian during the 2022 Oscar Awards.
Smith resigned from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences (AMPAS) on Friday, nearly a week after The Slap.
It was theorized that Smith was defending his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith’s honor after Rock cracked a joke about Jada’s hair loss.
Jada Pinkett Smith previously announced she was diagnosed with alopecia, an autoimmune disorder characterized by shiny bald spots on the scalp.
In his monologue on “Real Time With Bill Maher”, the comedian called Smith a “d * ck.”
“I’m not here to humiliate Will Smith. He gets enough of that at home,” Maher joked.
Many believe that Jada psychologically manipulated Will Smith over the years, and that he finally snapped.
Maher noted that alopecia is not a deadly illness – and certainly not worth manipulating a man to ruin his own career.
“If you are so lucky in life as to have that be your medical problem, just say ‘Thank God,'” Maher told Jada.
It’s not life-threatening. It’s part of – for most people, 80% of men, 50% of women – it’s part of aging. Aging is, trust me, I know, it’s the degradation of flesh. It happens to all And you know, just put on af ** king wig like everybody else at the Oscars if it bothers you so much. “
